Horray Summer! Today I went off on my first little daytrip, hoping it's the first of many this summer. Oh, and new rule. No working on the weekends until August. Stop. Put down that article on metadata....get out of town.

Motnicello was OK. A little commercial square around a courthouse like I've seen in many other midwestern towns. Not too many interesting shopping opportunities downtown, except I did discover Prairie Fire Glass studio. I signed up for their mailing list in case they offer any classes, but because of the heat they generally don't do classes except in fall-winter-spring. I'm captivated by glass blowing and would like to give it a try. I've watched folks at Glassworks in Louisville and at the City Museum in St. Louis. Just what I need, an expensive hobby.

I took a stroll aroung the historic district, where are there are some nice historic homes. Nothing too stellar, but I did find an interesting gothic revival on way out of town (see the Flickr set).

Allerton Park made the trip worthwhile. I had a nice stroll around the gardens and about a 1mi hike through the woods. I will be going back for some of the longer trails and to find the pioneer cemetary and the "house in the woods."

Where to next? I may try to go to the crazy ship model museum in Sadorous, hadn't realized it was so close.
