Austin Bound
I'm off to Austin, Tx on Monday. I've been looking forward to this trip, looking forward to the few extra days I planned to be in Austin outside of the conference. Then today I looked in on my bank account....and...I haven't been paid. I've got it covered, but I was really looking forward to just heading off knowing that not only do I have the scholarship $$, but would also be sitting on top of a new paycheck. Oh, well, best laid plans. I just hope there is not some stupid bureaucratic BS, e.g. they won't pay me until the next cycle. That just won't cut it.
It may mean that I don't pay my rent on time, but given the way Ramshaw has been taking care of business lately I really don't care. Several of us are convinced that the new tenants in the basement apartment are deaaling. Lots of non-tenents constantly coming and going. Apparently this has happened before and Ramshaw has done nothing about it since they pay their rent. There are now four high school stoners who are bouncing big plastic balls around - very annoying. Maybe it's JBs neighbors come to pay a visit.
Considering they still haven't done anything since the ceiling fell into the foyer I'm not surprised. (and I mean nothing, at least they could sweep up the plaster and broken pieces of drywall that are laying all over our mail). I look forward to moving even more now.

Thanks for the last half of this post; it answers several questions I was going to ask you re my (forced) quest to move.
Avoid the building you're in and avoid Ramshaw. Sound right?
Overall this has been a great place to live. Ramshaw failed to fix things in the bathroom that were reported when I moved in despite several complains. But eventually I just got too busy to push it and it didn't stop me from taking showers. And my apt. is fairly cheap for the areaa, esp. because all the utilities are included.
Considering we live in landlord monopoly land you could do worse.
The other problem is new, I imagine there are creative ways to deal with it.
don't forget about the U of I emergency loans of $1000 in cash. It's basically set up for forgetful pay periods....You just pay it back in 30 days.
Yeah, I did that last semester and would be the path of last resort. I don't know what they'll do since I'm not registered for any classes this summer and they have weird schedules for when they'll dole out emergency loans.
Actually I noticed this week that MY neighbors BROKE UP! One's name is scratched off the doorbell/mailbox. Perhaps she found another ball bouncing love in your building.
Weirdly, unless it happened and I was not here, their breakup was much quieter than their fights.
